Races CR Northam

Went within a nose first-up at this track in a Class 5 over 1400m, starting at generous odds and finishing strongly after beginning slowly and having difficulty getting clear from the 200m. The Albany run before the break was plain when favourite in a BM66+, but he has placed at this distance, handles wet ground and should take benefit from that return. Placed at the trip, handles wet ground and gets a strong chance to go one better.

Finished off well for third at Belmont Park last week, beaten a length and a half after covering ground, though he was unwanted in the market. That was a clear lift on his seventh at this track when slow away and unable to make ground. Third-up but others make more appeal.

Broke through in a Mdn at this venue last start, leading and holding Squad Goal by a long neck after being among the outsiders. That followed a second to Just Yes at the same venue, so his recent pattern is sound. Harder now, but the local form keeps him in the place mix.

Resumed with a seventh at Ascot, beaten a length and a half after beginning slowly, and the margin was much better than the finishing position suggests. She had ended the previous campaign in the G3 WA Oaks at Ascot, where the 2400m on soft ground found her out late. Back to a winning distance and fitter now, she has clear place claims.

Was eighth at Ascot first-up in a Class 1, beaten just under three lengths at long odds, and there was no clear excuse after she settled back and kept on only fairly. Her prior run was a distant seventh in the G3 WA Oaks behind Wonderfully Made. Easier setup helps, but she has plenty to find at this distance.

Finished last at Ascot first-up, beaten just under four lengths at long odds after settling back and failing to finish the race off. He was also second last at Albany in a BM66+ before the break, beaten over 12 lengths. Only a rough place hope if he improves sharply.

Continued a consistent run when second at this track last start, beaten just over half a length after being pipped at the post as one of the better-fancied runners. He had also been runner-up in NMW1Y grade at Belmont Park after beginning slowly. Apprentice claim helps; solid each-way profile.

Had genuine excuses when fourth at Ascot last start in a Class 1, held up on the home turn, forced wide near the 100m and not fully ridden out when beaten a length and a half. She had placed at York in BM44+ grade six days earlier, so the form is honest enough. Looking to others.

Put the race away well at Kalgoorlie last start, winning a Class 2 by a length and a half from Luminous Lady after being tightened on jumping. Two weeks earlier she was fourth in NMW1Y grade, beaten two lengths after being held up early, so the recent form has substance. First look at this venue is the only real query.
