A post-race vet exam revealed no abnormalities. Tnr could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. Steward's Comments: Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover from the 1300m. R Ex in the early stages, he was satisfied with his pos trailing the eventual winner, Sir Delius. Added however that when Sir Delius was able to find a position nearer the rail at the 1300m, he was then left racing wide and without cover from this point. Further added that prior to straightening, he was able to improve to the outside of Sir Delius and in a position to hold that horse to his inside when Sir Delius was trailing Young Werther gave ground.

Steward's Comments: When questioned rider explained there had been no set pre-race plan, however, he was satisfied with his position in the early stages. When questioned if he could have moved wider and improve around the field, he added he was aware the race tempo was slow, he did not feel his mount would have been advantaged by attempting to improve into the race in the middle stages bearing in mind he was trailing Via Sistina into the race. He felt if he improved he would have been obliged to make a long run covering ground.
