Steward's Comments: Rider reported that his instructions were to settle in a prominent position consistent with previous starts, he further added that in his opinion the tempo of the race set by the runner directly to his mount’s outside was detrimental to the gelding’s finishing effort. Shortly after passing the winning post made contact with the running rail and blundered. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor abrasion to the dorsomedial aspect of the geldings near-hind fetlock as well as a minor abrasion to it.

Steward's Comments: When questioned regarding riding rounding the home turn, R Ex improved onto back of the leader passing the 400m and shortly after a narrow run presented to the outside. Added he asked his mount to improve into that run, however when Rhinestone Rory improved to the outside of Rangatoo at the same time Rangatoo shifted in slightly, which resulted in his mount clipping the heels of High Altitude. While Stewards noted comments, he was cautioned against positioning his mounts too close to heels.
